T2020: Skilling Musicians & Engaging Audiences in Europe’s Orchestral Sector

Towards 2020: T2020

A prestigious consortium of some of the world’s finest arts organisations set off to change the face of classical music in Europe by skilling Europe’s young musicians to engage with 21st century audiences.

  • T2020: From 2014-2015, with the support of the European Commission's Creative Europe Programme, a unique partnership of cultural organisations, digital pioneers, music festivals, concert halls and performance specialists joined together with an aspirational, collective determinism: to create a model for sustainable employment and audience development within the classical music sector that can serve as best practice for other cultural areas.

  • Since 2015 the aims of T2020 have continued to inform adn drive the work of the Orchestra - in the transnational nature of all of our work, in our training of our musicians in the use of new performance formats, in new methods of 'selling' their work, in new methods of teaching, in searching out new audiences, in new global partnerships, and in new areas of activity including digital opportunities, outreach work and social music projects. 

  • New audience engagement initiatives derived from the Creative Europe T2020 programme include 'Spazio Klassik', 'The Music Gallery', 'Close Up', 'The Musiclabs', and 'the Late Sessions'. All offer a closer and more personalised style of performance for an increasingly varied public, adding to the more conventional - but no less important - work of the EUYO. These new initiatives are now part of the regular work of the EUYO, and have been experienced by audiences in the UAE and South America, as well as throughout the EU.
